Carpentier Plot - also S. Line 432 - Brkrsville Per Cornelius Durkee's 1878 cemetery report Elisha was father of William Carpenter and husband of Anne Carpenter. Per Bronson Taylor's Galway book Rev. Elisha Carpenter came to Providence in 1802. In 1809 he was pastor of the 1st Baptist Church of Galway. Later he was called before the Church Body for performing his own wedding. He maintained that he was legally correct and was forgiven for his breach of good judgement. Elisha had been a Dutchess County soldier preacher. His son William built the present day (1934) Shaw house near Barkersville and gave it to his father. Elisha near his death transferred the property to 3 elderly ladies named Clark. |

Possibly had a son named Latham. Possibly was the minister and Sunday School teacher of the Barkersville Christian Church in 1841. County Coroner in 1818 1820. (Another History gives the date of organization of the Barkersville Christian church as 1845 and names Latham Coffin as possibly the first minister. (Could this have been a son?) In 1850 the saw mill and grist mill in Barkersville had been sold to Latham Barker (Again - the son?) |
