Affidavit of Witnesses to Declaration, and Opinion of Vice Chancellor of 4th Circuit, 14 September 1832

We, Thomas Powel, a clergyman residing in the Town of Milton, County of
Saratoga and State of New York, and Salmon Child, residing in the Town of
Greenfield, County and State aforesaid, hereby certify that we are well acquain-
ted with Jehu Grant who has subscribed and sworn to the annexed decla-
ration; that we believe him to be about seventy-seven years of age; that he is respected
and believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have served in the revolution
as described in his said declaration and that we concur in that opinion.

           Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid
in open Court before me

Thomas Powell
Salmon Child

And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion after the investigation
of the matter and after putting the interrogatives prescribed by the War Depart-
ment that the above-named applicant served as he states in the revolution; And
the Court further Certifies that it appears to them that Thomas Powel who signed
the preceding certificate is a Clergyman resident in the Town of Milton in said Coun-
ty of Saratoga and that Salmon Child who has also signed the same is a resident
of Greenfield in the said County and is a creditable person and that the statement
is entitled to credit.
