Lines On The Death of Mr. Joshua Brown

Written in 1863 by Rev. J.N. Smith, Pastor of the Clifton Park Baptist Church. This tribute was tucked inside the pages of Alexander R. Knowlton's Bible. Alexander R. Knowlton and Joshua Brown were next door neighbors in 1850.

The poem mentions Joshua Brown having married twice and names his nine children: Ezra, Marcellus, Valentine, Solomon, John, Elmina, Maria, Vanrensselaer and Martha. Joshua and many family members are buried in the Clifton Park Baptist Church Cemetery. (see Clifton Park Cemetery Records.
