Middletown Cemetery
Town of Halfmoon
In the fall of 2011, Sue Halliday finished a project to clean up this cemetery and photographed the stones.
"In the spring I visited Middletown Cemetery in Halfmoon and found that there was a whole section about 20 feet wide and the depth of the cemetery that was under brush and trees. I contacted the town and they did 'some' clearing...The ones with the dirt background are the ones that I exposed. There doesn't seem to be any grouping of families in this cemetery. I'm going row by row..." There seems to be little logic in the arrangement of the burials, or at least of the stones. Rather than trying to display these names by rows, therefore, it appeared that an alphabetical list would be more useful. That keeps the Steenbergs and Steenburghs together, the VanSanfords and the VanSantvoords together.
Not all information on each individual stone is transcribed here; refer to the photo for more details. Many details are different from those listed on earlier transcriptions such as our page "Halfmoon Cemetery Records" at http://saratoganygenweb.com/hmae.htm but comparing those listings with the photos here will help resolve any discrepancy.
Middletown is an area in the south central section of the Town of Halfmoon, and has long held the most concentrated population of residents of that Town.
