Also to his views of church doctrine and government with the decision "that he be questioned on each point in the order presented". On motion, it was voted that the council retire and decide upon the advisability of ordaining our Brother Forte to the ministry.

After prayer by Rev. T. G. Lamb of Scotia, it was voted that we express ourselves satisfied with the personal experience of Brother Forte. Voted that we express ourselves satisfied with his call to the ministry. Voted that we are satisfied concerning his views of Church Doctrine & Government. Voted that we proceed to Ordination. Voted that a committee of two be appointed with Brother Forte to arrange ordination services. Revs. Smith and Gardner were named for such committee. They reported as follows.

Your committee would respectfully recommend the following program of exercises:

  1. Anthem "Father, O Hear Us"

  4. Prayer, Rev. T. G. Lamb
  5. Hymn "Jesus Lover of My Soul"

  12. Anthem "Have Mercy upon Me My Father"
  13. Benediction by the Pastor

After the benediction, the minutes of the meeting were called for, read and approved, and ordered to be inserted in the local paper. Also a copy to be placed on the record of the church. It was voted to adjourn. The session was closed by a prayer by the Rev. G. A. Smith.

The session throughout was one of deep interest. Numerous floral offerings decorated the church and added to its attractiveness. The examination of the candidate was most rigid and the entire unanimity of the council in its resolution of satisfaction showed what all who listened to his prompt disposal of the most knotty theological questions saw, namely his examination was to him a perfect triumph – a trying ordeal passed very creditably. The sermon in the afternoon by the Rev. C. A. Johnson of Greenwich was a very masterly discourse. His subject "The All important Choice". His Text "Choose ye this day whom ye will serve". Each one seemed to fill the position assigned him in a credible manner to himself and satisfactory to the audience. The thanks of all who listened are certainly due to the singers, under Mr. J. O. Hannum who rendered some very fine music in a very pleasing manner. J. W. LeSeur, Clerk

To-day the church assembled to listen to the farewell sermon of the pastor, Rev. I. C. Forte who has been the much loved pastor for over ten years. Through the courtesy of the Methodist Church, their church was closed and their pastor, the Rev. Geo. Stockwell and his congregation attended our church. The Rev. Mr. Stockwell read the morning lesson and offered the opening prayer. Brother Forte, as he stepped to the desk, stated that although this was his farewell sermon as a pastor, it would be in no sense a farewell sermon. He announced his text,"What is man that thou art mindful of him? For the son of man that thou visitest him?" (Ps. 4-8) and preached from it one of his characteristic, strong, logical gospel sermon. At the close of the sermon, Brother Forte briefly stated that this was the close of a pastorate of more than ten years, and that he left the church because he felt called of God so to do. That he left many friends both in the church and in the community, that he recalled nothing that he had said that he now wished he had not said. During the remarks, it was very evident that the pastor felt very deeply and that many tear dimmed eyes were seen in the audience. Brother Forte asked Rev. A. G. Cochran to lead in prayer at the closing of the service. Bro. Stockwell and our veteran Brother Cochran both offered praise to God for his manifold mercies and blessings and asked that his blessing might rest richly upon Brother Forte as he should enter his new and broader field of labor. And also that his Holy Spirit might abide with the church. The service closed by the benediction by Rev. Stockwell. Fred Peck, Clerk

Rev. E. E. Manning preached his farewell sermon to this church and the people to-day. For his morning lesson, he read that beautiful 23 rd Psalm and the first chapter of Phillipians and used for his text the 27 th verse of the chapter,"only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, That ye stand fast in the Spirit with one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospel". From which he preached a most practical sermon showing the amount of good to be accomplished by all working together with one aim and the important part that each member bore to the church as a whole. At the close he made a brief statement of the work that had been done here. Although Bro. Manning labored with us but one year and the field was not an encouraging or prosperous one, we feel that he labored faithfully and it has not been in vain. For God says "My work shall not return to me void But it shall accomplish that which I please and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it". Hattie E. DeRidder, Church Clerk
