Transcription of Vanderwerker birth records in the 1715 bible

This is a record of some births and marriages in the voice of  Elizabeth Van Dam Sybrandt b.1706–d.1778, probably by her granddaughter Elizabeth Sybrandt Vanderwerker b.1756-d.1835. The bible was printer in the year MDCCXV (1715) and is in the possession of Lois Vanderwerker Taylor, Clayton Vanderwerker’s daughter.

Transcription by David Peck.

  • Elizabeth Vandewarker, who was married to Isaac Vandewarker in the 1772 year. My granddauter, Elizabeth Sybrandt, was married to Isaac Vandewarker 27 of November 1772.
  • My great grandson James Vandewarker was born the 18 of August 1774 at 12 o’clock and was confirmed at Saratoga.
  • My great grandson Joseph Vandewarker was born June 10 Thursday 1776 and died June 24 and was buried.
  • My great granddaughter Elizabeth Vandewarker born April the 14 in year of our Lord 1778 christened by Domini Burricots at Stillwater. Walter DeRidder and his wife stood for her.
  • My great grandson Sovereign Vandewarker was born August 12 1782 on Monday was christened by Domini Burcote at Catacook.  Ephraim Clute and his wife stood for him.[this baptism took place 12 August 1782 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Schaghticoke whose records show Everet Knuett (Clute) and Sarah Sybrandt as sponsors.]
  • My grandson Martin Vandewarker was born April 7 1786 on Friday and was christened June 18 by Domeny Dounder. Nicholas Gardineer and his wife, godfather and godmother. [The records show the baptism as 11 June 1786 with sponsors Nicholas Gardinier and Rachel Vandenbergh.]
  • My great grandson Isaac Vandewarker was born July 25 1789 Saturday morning and died on Wednesday September 23 and was buried on the 24th.
  • My great grandson Isaac Vandewarker was baptized May 8, 1791 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Saratoga by Reverend Parson Smith. His father and mother were godfather and godmother.
  • My great grandson John Vandewarker was born June 15, 1794 and died the same day.
  • My grandson Isaac Vanderwerker died January 25, 1824 age 73 years 11 months and 2 days [The fact that the grandson died in 1824 is reason for my hunch that this was written by Elizabeth Van Dam Sybrandt’s granddaughter because Elizabeth died in 1778 and was not alive when her grandson died in 1824.]
