These are some notes I made while reading the Schuylerville Standard for the year 1880. I tried to get what ever death, birth and marriage announcements there were, but may have missed some.
Wednesday, January 7, 1880 vol. 9, #37
New York State News
Freddy, aged 5 years, son of HC Stevens, postmaster at Keeseville, was instantly killed Friday by running against a hay fork with which a man was pitching hay in the barn. The fork tines penetrated the brain through the temple
George Leonard, an old resident of Hoosick Falls died suddenly on Saturday night. He had been troubled with rheumatism for a long time past and on Saturday took a heavy dose of red pepper to relieve pain which produced death in about four hours.
Saratoga County Robert Davison, a wealthy farmer residing at West Charlton was found dead in his barnyard Sunday night, December 28. He was 55 years of age. Death was caused by apoplexy.
Application was made to Judge Crane on Saturday to commit a daughter of Charles McNulty to the asylum at Poughkeepsie. The girl has a fine education but is insane from religious excitement. Drs. Reynolds and Grant were ordered to make an examination

Shepherds Corners and Vicinity
Charles Cramer, son of Hiram Cramer and Alice Moe, daughter of Morgan Moe all of Shepherds Corners were married on the 7th inst. by the Rev. DK Van Doren
An elderly lady named Eliza Fair while temporarily residing with Michael Varley tripped and fell on the ice on the 6th inst. and dislocated her hip. Dr. Harris is attending her Sally wife of Jonathan Hill died of consumption on the 9th inst. In the eighty first year of her age. The funeral was held at her late residence near Deans Corners on the 11th inst. at two o'clock pm
Jonathan VanWie who has owned and lived on the Oakly place for the past two years has rented ( since the place was sold a few days ago) of Ed. Bessel the place known as the widow Russel place and is to take possession the first of April next. Ed. is building a new barn for the accommodation of the place.

At the Roman Catholic Fair, Greenwich, Saturday a gold headed cane was given to the person receiving the highest number of votes. Robert Hamilton proprietor of the Greenwich Hotel received about 600 votes and HB Tefft the next highest about 400
New York State News
The emigration from Clinton County to Colorado still continues. It is said that 500 men are now located at Leadville who formerly resided in the towns of Clinton County and Chateaugay, Franklin County. It is estimated that their earnings sent home average 18,000 a month.

Important Suit
George Wilcox of this village who was killed by the cars near Saratoga in 1868 died intestate leaving two children. Over one of these, now Minnie F Perkins, James A Van Schaick was appointed guardian. In 1870 William Wilcox, Mrs. Perkins grandfather, died leaving a large estate and Van Schaick was appointed one of the administrators....

Miss Alice Kearney,age 17 years died at this place of consumption, on Thursday last, after an illness of five months. Nelson Woods, same age and same disease died on Sunday last.

Middle Falls
Mr. Abram Tefft had the ill luck to lose his cow. She got as far as the meal box last Friday and so ate so much she could nor survive the effects of it.

Pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 488 of laws of 1873 and by virtue of authority granted by the Board of Supervisors of Saratoga County, I hereby give notice to the relatives or friends of the following persons buried on my premises in Stillwater NY. viz. Elizabeth Ford, George Ford, Abigail Rubotam, Cornelius Vandenburgh, Eliza Rubotom, Clorenda Darrow, William Corinth, Mary A Poucher. That at expiration of six weeks from date I shall remove said bodies to some cemetery unless the same are previously removed.

Thirty-four employees of the new linen mill company arrived in town from Ireland, Tuesday morning of last week. The houses that are being built by the company not being completed. Several of the newcomers have found themselves accommodations in rooms over the post office and in Shurtleff's block.

County News
Willie Ryan, son of John Ryan of Saratoga, disappeared Thursday and has not been seen since. He left home in the morning, attended the High School as usual and was last seen by one of his school mates near the Delaware and Hudson Depot. He has been very studious during the winter and his father thinks his brain has been affected by over work. Young Ryan is about 17 years old, very large for his age, five feet 9 or 10 inches in height and weighs about 175 lbs. He wore dark clothing, thick boots and a slouched hat.

Mr. John Matthews is helping to relieve the distress in Ireland by importing therefrom some of its stalwart sons. Last week a nephew W. George Lindsay arrived in this village fresh from County Downs in the north of the Emerald Isle. He has gone right to work using his brawn under the direction of his uncle.

Local And Personal
Michael Hughes of Coveville was arrested last week for stealing a buffalo robe from William Wilbur of Quaker Springs. He was brought before Justice Scott, who decided upon the evidence that he was guilty and gave him the privilege of paying a fine of $25 or going to the penitentiary for 60 days. Michael came down with the cash and now owns a pretty dear Buffalo robe.

Middle Falls
The death of Mr. A M Tefft took place about 1o o'clock last Monday. He had been failing for several months past but his death was quite sudden to all. He had been married but five months, and his wife who had been spending a few weeks past in Rensalaer County returned home last week to attend his last days of sickness.
